New Moon Self Care Ritual for October 2017

New Moon Self Care Ritual for October 2017

The new moon in October falls on the 19th of this month. It's a very powerful time to let go of things that aren't serving you anymore and to invite new things into your life.  This new moon is in Libra which makes it all about balance.  In order to find balance we need to ground ourselves. Take a moment to complete this short ritual which will help you to ground and then balance.

It is best to do this between October 17th and October 25th when the moon energy is at it's most transformative.

You will need a pen and two sheets of paper, a candle, an insence stick or some sage.

Find a comfortable place where you won't be disturbed. Sit comfortably, preferably in contact with the ground, so on the floor or even outside in nature.

Take a moment to feel the earth beneath you, to feel yourself fully supported by the earth. Breathe in to the count of 4 and out to the count of 6. Imagine you are putting roots down into the earth connecting with Mother Nature and allowing her energy to rise up through the earth towards you.  Accept her energy as a gift. Feel yourself surrounded by it.

When you are ready open your eyes.  Light your candle and insence stick or sage and use it to cleanse your energy field or aura by waving it around your body for a few moments.

Take your pen and first sheet of paper and write "What am I releasing?" at the top of the page. Now take some time to think about what you would like to let go of, what isn't serving you anymore in your life.  Pay attention to where you feel an imbalance in your life.  Let your thoughts flow naturally and just write without really paying too much attention to what is flowing. Let your heart speak.

When you feel you have written all you need to take your second piece of paper.  Write "What am I making space for?" at the top of this page.  And then repeat the exercise, allowing your heart to speak freely. Be very clear as to what you are making space for, the Universe loves clarity.

Once you have finished spend some time reconnecting to the earth and repeat the breathing exercise.

You can end the ritual by burning the "What am I releasing" paper with your candle, be safe and make sure you have something to catch the paper if you are doing this, such as a clay plantpot.

Take your "What am I making space for" paper and put it in a sacred space, you can create a small altar with a few things that are precious to you, photos of loved ones, candles, a crystal, some flowers. Come back to the paper throughout the coming weeks to reaffirm what you are creating space for.

Happy new moon yogis!
